In 1968, what eventually became the Winn Feline Foundation was created by the Cat Fanciers’ Association (CFA) “to promote the health and welfare of cats by developing or participating in projects for their betterment, including the contribution of funds for research and education.”
What foresight our founders at CFA had! As Winn has grown over the past 40 years, so has feline medicine. Today, cat owners expect and receive state-of-the art medical care when it is necessary. They assume their cats will benefit from the many technological advances made in veterinary medicine—and with increasing frequency, they do. No longer are cats viewed as small dogs; they are now a major veterinary specialty. Winn’s commitment to feline health research and education, especially at a time when feline medicine was in its infancy, has played a large role in these achievements.
2008 marks the 25th anniversary of my becoming a veterinarian and the 40th year that the Winn Feline Foundation has been helping advance the health of cats worldwide.
